Marge's - Cocktails, music, fun & friends on the beach of Lake Ontario in Rochester (Seabreeze), NY

For over 80 years patrons have lifted their spirits and drowned their sorrows at 4909 Culver Road. During the Prohibition Era the property belonged to a man named George Magin, who ran a speakeasy from this lakeside locale. Here, Magin served his clientele of scofflaws liquor he bootlegged from Canada and beer he brewed in his basement. Prohibition eventually ended, but the fun didn't; Magin's was one of the first establishments in Monroe County to obtain a liquor license.
	On October 1, 1960, Marge Beth, a hardworking woman with a lifetime's experience in the bar business, bought the tavern now known as Marge's. Marge and her son Ron treated customers to cool cocktails and homey hospitality. Marge's other son Gerry entertained all, playing sing-along tunes on the piano. Together they anchored Marge's reputation as one of the best waterside watering holes in Rochester, NY.
In 1975, Ron took over the business. Ron always lived life to the fullest, and he poured his heart and soul into the bar until his death in 1986 from complications of cancer. Now, Ron's wife Fran and daughter, Francine, carry on the Marge's tradition of fun and good times. Fran, often mistakenly referred to as "Marge" (by those not familiar with the tavern's history) can be seen proofing visitors at the door and, on occasion, be heard singing a Patsy Cline tune.
	Guests hang out in the front room, where fishnets filled with nostalgic trinkets hang from the ceiling, oldies spin on the jukebox, and partiers play tambourines and maracas. Video games and a dart machine chime in the back room. In the rear, an extended deck gives visitors a chance to get away from it all and enjoy the intoxicating sunset coloring the horizon of Lake Ontario.
